1. Why is the Southland Center closing?

The Ho-Chunk Nation Legislature made the decision to close the Southland Center after evaluating financial and operational challenges. While the facility has served the Lynwood community since 2004, it has not provided a sustainable return on investment for the Nation. This decision reflects the Nation’s commitment to making financially sound decisions for its members. 

2. When will the closure take effect?

The Southland Center will cease operations on January 20, 2025. After this date, the facility will no longer be open to the public.

3. What will happen to the Southland Center property?

The Legislature or HCN is exploring future opportunities for the Southland property. Discussions will focus on maximizing its potential value while ensuring any decisions align with the Nation’s long-term goals. Further updates will be provided as plans develop.

4. Will there be communication with vendors and staff?

Yes. All vendors and staff affected by this closure have been or will be notified directly. If vendors have questions, they should contact the designated point of contact listed in their notice.

Tribal members can contact their legislative representatives for further clarification or updates. 

7. What measures are being taken to secure the facility?

The building will be secured starting January 20, 2025, with signage posted to notify the public of its closure. Staff will remain on-site temporarily to oversee the facility’s transition and ensure maintenance tasks are completed.

8. How will the closure impact tribal finances?

Closing the Southland Center is a fiscally responsible decision made to protect the Nation’s resources. This decision helps redirect resources toward initiatives that benefit the Nation as a whole.
