No, there is no potty-training requirement. Head Start staff will work together with you as the parent and with your child toward that goal. We often find that children potty train quickly once they start school. We also have a toileting procedure in place that is followed for diapering and toileting assistance.

Ho-Chunk Head Start enrollment is determined by multiple factors. While Ho-Chunk children are given priority, the program also serves non-Tribal children and children from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Our primary enrollment priorities include:

• Tribal members or children living in a household with Tribal members
• Children living in a household at or below the poverty guidelines
• Foster children
• Children who receive SSI
• Children whose household receives SNAP
• Children whose household receives TANF
• Children with diagnosed or suspected disabilities
• Other eligibility criteria considered during the enrollment process

Yes, transportation is provided in all areas. The bus service radius from the center is 12 miles, but we also serve children outside of that area and work together with families to establish possible ways to get children to school.

Bus service is provided Monday through Thursday and for field trips. Fridays are typically parent transport days.

The centers prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks for the children according to USDA daily requirements. Sack lunches are not allowed. We also make accommodations for any child with special dietary requirements indicated by a physician. The physician must indicate what the replacement item should be, and the center can then purchase and prepare that supplemental item for the child.

Service hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

There are some scheduled Fridays that include a combination of full-day programming, as listed above, and part-day programming from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

School begins during the last week of August and typically ends on the last day of the first week of June.
